Good Team- Bad Team

Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts!

Wow, it’s been a long time. I was born and raised in Indianapolis, and have always been a huge Colts fan. What a great way to end a great season. The Colts had a great season (12-4), yet were criticized (and their playoff expectations discounted) by all the so-called experts because of their “horrible run defense.” A little bit better effort and the return of some previously injured players, and the Colts D dominated in the postseason. The Colts D out-played the #1, #2, and #3 ranked defenses from the regular season in their final three playoff games.

It’s amazing how sports can mirror the bigger principles of life. How often we criticize people when circumstances outside their control really caused the problem, or we set unrealistic expectations for others or ourselves. Sure, we need to demand hard work and commitment, striving for excellence, but we must also realize the importance of accepting results less than perfect, if the dedication and effort was reasonable.

I also want to congratulate the Colts’ leadership: Owner Jim Irsay, GM Bill Polian, Coach Tony Dungy, and all the rest. They made a point to build a team based on good character, not jumping to sign the talented super-star players with character issues. I know the city of Indianapolis is proud to not only have the championship, but to have done it the right way, with men of character. Irsay and Dungy both gave the glory to God as they accepted the trophy today, as they did two weeks ago with the AFC Champion’s trophy.

Again, congratulations to the Colts and the city of Indianapolis for the World Championship, and for doing it the right way!
